The ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture Rehmankhera Lucknow celebrated its 40th Foundation Day

The ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture, Rehmankhera, Lucknow celebrated its ‘40th Foundation Day’ at its Rehmankhera campus on June 01, 2023 under the chairmanship of the chief guest of the function, Dr. Major Singh, Member, Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board, New Delhi. In his address he underlined the importance of orienting research towards evaluation of neutraceutically rich horticultural crops for nutritional security and for improvement in the livelihood of the growers. He added that the traceability is essential for planting material to and also for produces the value chain to attract the markets of European Union and USA. He especially congratulated the scientists for their unending contributions to the fruit industry of the country. He also congratulated the growers for supporting the scientists and adopting the technologies of the ICAR-CISH and ultimately making round the year availability of fruits and vegetables in plenty. The chief guest honored the eminent scientists of the institute and the farmers for their contributions. Earlier, Dr T. Damodaran, Director, ICAR-CISH, in his welcome address, presented the summary of last 40 year achievements of the Institute and explained the future focus of research on the climate resilient horticulture, nutraceutical rich varieties of mango, guava and jamun, and strengthening of research on value chain for domestic and export market. He added that the Institute has developed the protocol for sea route export of mango. The Institute is collaborating with mango pack house for mango export using ICAR-CISH technology. Dr Shailendra Rajan, Ex Director, ICAR-CISH presented the long term breeding outcome of mango and guava in the institute. The guests of honour, the Directors of CSIR-NBRI, Dr Ajit Shashney, ICAR-IISR, Dr R. Vishwanathan and ICAR-NBFGR, Dr U.K. Sarkar emphasized the need of collaborative research among the Institutes and appreciated the progress and performance of ICAR-CISH, Lucknow. Mr. Upendra Singh, Secretary, AAUBS, Lucknow, the representative of the mango farmers, elaborated the achievements of mango farmers and emphasized the benefits by adopting ICAR-CISH technologies.
